Lost canoe

Sooner than expected

That’s it guys, my next trip is really close. Next Monday I will go for a week to Corsica, which is a small french island in the Mediterranean Sea.
We are going to be just two photographers, so we might woke up early to capture some sunrises  ;D
I really hope to bring back some beautiful pictures for you guys.
After that, I will follow on with another week abroad, in south of Spain to be precise. Then Asia for august!
I am excited, so much adventures to come!!!

Lost canoe

This one is from my trip to Florida a year ago. I flight to join the on-going 3 month roadtrip of two friends. I met them in Miami and stuck with them for 2 weeks around the Sunshine State. That was really cool. We went to The Keys, where we couldn’t find anywhere to sleep, took some time to chill on the Everglades and went all the way up to Orlando to salute Mickey Mouse. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring much pictures home.
I took this photograph during a two days/15 miles canoe trip in the Hell’s Bay Mangrove Swamp. That was an exhausting journey and the liters of beer we drank on the way, didn’t really helped ;D
After much detour (everything looked the same), we finally arrived at the chickee around 6pm. Chickees are elevated wooden platforms constructed over open water, they give canoeists the opportunity to stay in the mangrove swamp overnight.
There we met a nice couple that was kind enough to share a bottle of wine with us. So we sat there, drank and watch the sunset to finally called it a night really early.
I took this picture the following evening on our way home, when we stopped at some pier to have lunch.

Curves ahead

Here we go, another road shot from USA. Not much more to say, it was a sunny and beautiful day across the ocean. I can’t wait to get back there again.

I plaid guilty, I am late for our sunday Rendez-vous. But I figured that this is a 3 days week-end so it was allowed to post monday morning. ;D
I dont know what you got but in Toulouse, France, weather is really bad, that’s a shame for all the kids who are going to search for wet eggs.
Anyway, Happy Easter everyone.

For those of you wich are not familiar with this kind of object, this is called a Cairn. It is just a man-made stack of rocks and human beings had buildt these pile since prehistoric times for many reasons (landmarks, grave, religious or mystical places…).
Nowadays Cairn could still be use as religious sign like the often decorated mongolian ovoo but the most commons use for cairns in North-america and Northern Europe is to mark mountain bike and hiking trail. So if you are lost and you see one of those, you know that you are on the right path ;D

This particular Cairns indicate the road trought Park Avenue, a small canyon at Arches National Park in Utha.

Disney crane

I took this picture during a winter trip in Florida last year. Not much to say, it was a good day with my friends at…… Disney World!! 😛

Those birds were all over the place, it was really wonderfull to see them wander around not a bit afraid of every child screaming at their sight.

After some research on the net, I found that those birds are cranes. I also found that cranes are mystical and holly creatures in Japan. The crane is also the most famous and most common origami figure in Japan. The tradition says that if you fold one thousand origami cranes, you will be granted a wish such as healthy or long life.

I know this seems like useless knowledge but go there and learn to do it!! (maybe not 1000 ;D )

The American Way

I took this picture in Arizona during a National Parks road trip. You can find this kind of road everywhere on the East Side of US. Beautiful and wild, miles and miles of open roads waiting to be driven. It has a magical touch, giving you a true feeling of freedom.

Anyway, a funny and interesting thing is how shooting signposts is a real national sport in USA. In those wild places, every signpost is scattered by multiple gunshot wounds, that maybe represent the boredom of the inhabitants (funny thing for sure ;). I really wonder if is it a tradition in any other country??

Delicate Arche

Delicate Arche

On my first trip in USA, with a friend we were doing some agricultural work in a peache farm somewhere in Colorado. The owners were kind enough to share an old 4wheel toyota so we had the chance to take a Sunday trip right to Utah.

After a quick stop trough Moab, we went straight to Arches NP. There we decided to take a walk to Delicate Arche not knowing what awaits us. After a hike that felt like ages, we arrived at a small path that run along a cliff and to our right: a big wall. I saw a hole in that wall and I finally climb trough it.

After some efforts, I took step on a small cove with an astoning view of the place you are about to see in the attached picture. Silenced by the marvellous scene, I hadn’t noticed that I wasn’t alone. Sitting close to me was somekind of hippie dude smoking pot. He stared at me, smiled and asked “Wanna join me?”. So I just sat there, watched the sunset go down and smoke with this weird-unknow guy.

From that moment, I decided I would always come to this place if the possibility was offered to me. So there I’m, I’ve been in USA 5 times since and everytime I’ve been able (3 on 5), I’ve found myself looking at this same wonderfull view.

Anyway, long story short: If you ever planned, sooner or latter, to travel to USA… make damn sure you don’t miss this place!

This picture was taken on my 4th trip during the summer of 2010.
